We are starting to see real signs of summer over here. I cannot tell you how happy that is making me. Don’t get me wrong, it’s not all bright and cheery. The forecast for today calls for severe thunderstorms and rain. Anyhow, the British definitely know how to take advantage of a good thing – whenever the sun comes out you will find every single outdoor space cram-packed with people. Parks, pub gardens, alfresco dining, farmers markets will all be overflowing with people desperate to enjoy the goodness shining down from the sky. We, like every good expat should, have learned how to mimic some of the habits of the natives. After all, this is NOT California where the sun shines 300+ days a year.
A few weeks ago, on a Friday, Charles decide that we were going to host the 1st Annual International Hyde Park Sunny Weather Weekend Memorial Get Together. On Saturday, the next day. Even with such short notice everyone got into the spirit bringing more food and drink than we could possibly eat and drink, but did, several games (beer pong was the envy of all passers-by) and even some music.
We had a great time, got a little bit of a sun tan, a little bit of a buzz, and ended the evening at a local pub garden discussing what we might do for the second installment of the 1st Annual International Hyde Park Sunny Weather Weekend Memorial Get Together to be held next time we had a sunny Saturday.
